Social Justice
"People tell me that this is their way of dealing with their problems. But I think they are not dealing with their problems at all. They are just creating a new one so that they can forget about the actual one." When I first came to Canada I had no experience with the topic "Self harm". I knew that there were people who did it, but I never thought that it is actually this big and kind of "popular". In the small village I live in in Germany, one girl started hurting herself. I can still see how everybody reacted when they saw it. All my friends tried to help her, to make her feel better. I feel like it is different here. It is just kind of normal. It was hard for me to deal with all this at first, but by now I know how to handle it and I figured out a way to help my friends. Each year, 1 in 5 females and 1 in 7 males engage in self injury. 90 percent of people who engage in self harm begin during their teen years... |
Heal - Tom Odell
|
"Take my mind and take my pain
like and empty bottle in the rain and heal, heal, heal, heal. And take my past and take my sense like an empty sail takes the wind and heal, heal, heal, heal. And tell me some things last And tell me some things last." I went out to take pictures a few days ago without knowing which song I am going to choose yet.
The song Heal by Tom Odell came on while I was editing my pictures. As I started listening to the lyrics I realized how well they go with them. The song makes me think about life and the pain and loss some people have to go through. That is also why I chose to edit three of the pictures in black and white. In my opinion it expresses the meaning/feeling of the song. |
Famous Photographer: Lara Jade
I worked on this project together with Andrea.
It actually took us quite a while to find a photographer we both like, but looking at Lara Jades pictures made it clear that we should take her.
I love the way she works with models and the environment they are in for the shoot.
We tried to combine her and our style.
Both of these pictures were taken by me and I really like the way they worked out. I also feel like the models look really good next to each other and just show this "untouchable" kind of style.

Culture
At first I really struggled with this project because I wanted to find something that represents culture for me here in Canada.
I started Cheerleading beginning of the year and I didn't even think of using this.
In Germany Cheerleading is not very popular so I got super excited when I found out that our school has its own team.
This picture is from one of our last competitions and I love how you can see their passion and joy in their eyes.
It really shows how much this means to them and how they live in the moment.

PHOTOSHOP INTRO:
This was our first Photoshop project. For me it represents life. In its positive, but also negative way. I think that the colors on the lower left corner show how rich and lovely life can be. The "Beauty of Life" is about what you do with it…wether you dance, love music, reading or just hanging out with your friends. You should enjoy every second of it. But life is not always great. It has some dark sides too, which is represented by the colors black and white. The disorder of the images also makes it seem not perfect. And eventually life is not perfect. We still have to make the best out of it because we all only live once. |
